Kids Phys Ed Injuries Increase…and they think we don’t need Healthcare Reform

Wait until they have to start paying for these fat ass kids

This is just another excuse for kids to become more obese couch potatoes. If they take PE out of schools again, kids will increasing become fatter and fatter.

I remember hating PE in school, but I took it anyway and it was good for me. I hated the uniform we had to wear, but I wore and it was good for me. PE helped me to eventually love exercise and working out; now the choices I make as an adult, are my responsibility but kids need guidance and the parents and school systems of today seem to forget that.

A recent study shows kids are getting injured at a much higher rate in gym class than in years past. But the high rate of child obesity, has advocates pushing for more physical education at school. A roundtable of moms experts tackles the issue.

Listen to the story here on NPR.

Are you kidding me! Look at these kids; this is just sad

Fat Watch: Why Exercise Won’t Make You Thin

If you want to lose weight, just do the damn thing already!

Via Time.com

By John Cloud Thursday, Aug. 06, 2009

Whether because exercise makes us hungry or because we want to reward ourselves, many people eat more — and eat more junk food, like doughnuts — after going to the gym.a_wexercise_0817

The basic problem is that while it’s true that exercise burns calories and that you must burn calories to lose weight, exercise has another effect: it can stimulate hunger. That causes us to eat more, which in turn can negate the weight-loss benefits we just accrued. Exercise, in other words, isn’t necessarily helping us lose weight. It may even be making it harder.

Green Watch: Environmental Moguls & Entrepreneurs: The Vélib’

Paris has a striking new hallmark, as anyone who has visited the city in the past year can attest: thousands of gray bicycles that can be rented for a small fee and dropped off at will at high-tech bike stands around town. The Vélib’ self-service scheme has been a roaring success, with more than 30 million rentals since the launch in July 2007. As a result, bicycles have become a mainstream — and very green — form of public transportation in the French capital. “They’re highly ecological. They give out no emissions and you propel them with your own energy,” notes Jean-Charles Decaux, co-chief executive of JCDecaux, the family-controlled outdoor advertising company that founded Vélib’.

McCain’s Questionable Foreign Policy Chops

We’re worried about Sarah Palin’s foreign policy experience, we might need to be concerned about John McCains if he doesn’t know that Spain is in Europe or who is the President of Spain.

This gets more bizarre by the day…have a read.

QUESTION: Senator, finally, let’s talk about Spain. If you’re elected president, would you be willing to invite President Jose Luiz Rodriguez Zapatero to the White House to meet with you?

MCCAIN: I would be willing meet, uh, with those leaders who our friends [sic] and want to work with us in a cooperative fashion, and by the way, President Calderon of Mexico is fighting a very very tough fight against the drug cartels. I’m glad we are now working in cooperation with the Mexican government on the Merida plan. I intend to move forward with relations, and invite as many of them as I can, those leaders, to the White House.

QUESTION: Would that invitation be extended to the Zapatero government, to the president itself?

MCCAIN: I don’t, you know, honestly I have to look at relations and the situations and the priorities, but I can assure you I will establish closer relations with our friends and I will stand up to those who want to do harm to the United States of America.

QUESTION: So you have to wait and see if he’s willing to meet with you, or you’ll be able to do it in the White House?

MCCAIN: Well again I don’t, all I can tell you is that I have a clear record of working with leaders in the hemisphere that are friends with us, and standing up to those who are not, and that’s judged on the basis of the importance of our relationship with Latin America, and the entire region.

QUESTION: Okay… what about you, I’m talking about the President of Spain?

MCCAIN: What about me what?

QUESTION: Okay… are you willing to meet with him if you are elected president?

MCCAIN: I am willing to meet with any leader who is dedicated to the same principles and philosophy that we are for human rights, democracy and freedom, and I will stand up to those that do not.

Be afraid, be very afraid!

Landmark US Study on Healthy Fat People

I read this over at Big Fat Blog. I bet the fat haters choked on their arugula salad (which I love btw) over this. Many fat people have known this for a long time; all fatties aren’t striving to be skinny, some are just striving to be actively healthy. Some fatties aren’t ashamed of being fat and love themselves unconditionally. Many skinny people can’t understand that which is a shame, because you don’t have to be skinny to be healthy and beautiful.

Hmmm…imagine that!

Landmark US Study on Healthy Fat People

News rang out from coast to coast here in the US – even making the front page of The Oregonian – that fat people can be healthy. Kate Harding called in the Duh Truck. The study comes from an Albert Einstein College of Medicine study led by researcher MaryFran Sowers and appeared in Mondays edition of Archives of Internal Medicine. From the AP piece:

A new study suggests that a surprising number of overweight people — about half — have normal blood pressure and cholesterol levels, while an equally startling number of trim people suffer from some of the ills associated with obesity.

Don’t Laugh…I Bought A Bike

Okay, stop laughing! My intentions are good. I bought a bike for basically three reasons:

  1. I think gas prices are going to keep rising in the near future. Unless we really decide as a nation and actually get off our pompous asses and start sacrificing something, we will always be dependent on foreign oil…chaotic stupidity.
  2. I’m trying to become a conscious consumer; I want to be aware and knowledgable of how the environmental changes happening affect me personally and my community generally. I want to contribute, become a part of the green movement and do what I can to make a difference however big or small. Soon you will be able to visit me at www.oneadaygreen.com where I will share my green journey by doing one new thing green every day. I want to do it this way so that I don’t feel deprived of anything and not so overwhelmed that I give up…chaotic greenery.
  3. And lastly, I remember the joy I felt riding a bike throughout my life. Once I learned how to dirve and got a learners permit, riding a bike became passe. I want to rediscover my youth in some ways, but mostly I need to get my butt off the couch and this is a great form of exercise…chaotic Joy.

I Can Make You Thin…My Big Fat Ass

I need to blow off some steam right now so please excuse any excessive expletives.

It was my intention not to ever watch the new weight loss show on TLC — I Can Make You Thin, but last night I purposely reminded myself that it was coming on so I could check it out. I watched a few minutes and this guy started saying he was going to make you thin through the television; I changed the channel. Then I thought okay, give him the benefit of the doubt; so some time later I turned back to the show and this time the host was telling people to tap away their cravings; give me a fucking break. I am so tired of people trying to sell Americans a bunch of bull shit, instead of trying to sell the truth…Get up off your ass and exercise and put the fork down and stop eating too much food. That’s what we need to be sold on, the fast-food we are eating is killing us. Get back into the kitchen and cook healthy foods, stop eating that crappy processed food shit you are being sold on. Wake the hell up America, no one can stop this madness but us.

Move your ass and close your mouth.

 Okay, I’m done.

Book Review: Sexy in 6: 6 Minute Quick-Blast Workout

I have to say, that I didn’t expect to get much out of this fitness book; it seemed sexy-in-6.pngstereotypically typical and not much different than all the others. The most interesting and useful part of this book for me came at the very end. As a matter of fact it is anchored on the back cover of the book; that is the DVD that is included with several 6 minute exercise routines that are manageable and doable even at my weight. The music isn’t the greatest and Tracey Mallett the fitness expert who wrote the book can be a little annoying at times, but I just put on my iPod and completely tune her and the music out and make the DVD work for me or my own terms.
