Do I Need To Purchase A Gun???
Let’s just get right to it; some white folks are buying guns by the barrel load and believe me they’re not all “gun enthusiasts” afraid that Obama is going to impose some outrageous gun control laws in his term as president. Some of these people are getting ready for some idiotic notion that there is an impending race war coming. It has made me think twice about possibly purchasing a gun and taking lessons so that I will be able to protect myself and my family. I have never owned a gun in my life nor have I ever thought it would be necessary for me to own a gun; but the incidents of violence happening around the country are a bit upsetting and frightening.
You’ve got people saying stupid stuff like this:
“He’s a gun-snatcher,” said Jim Pruett, owner of Jim Pruett’s Guns and Ammo in northwest Houston, which was packed with shoppers on Thursday.
“He wants to take our guns from us and create a socialist society policed by his own police force,”

What kind of dumb shit is that. This man is a moron, but you have to take morons like this seriously. You never know when a group of angry white people will accost you, hook you up to the back of some pickup and drag you for miles…remember James Byrd. Unfortunately you have to think about your safety first and the idiocy of their logic second.
I’m still not sure it’s the way I want to go, but I am going to discuss it with my family and seriously consider purchasing a handgun…it even pains me to say it.
We are truly a nation of minorities now and folks need to recognize that fact and live up to our nations creed (you know, life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness). Minorities now outnumber the majority and we just want to live and love in this country like everyone else. If the crazy southern/religious/conservative fringe want to start a race war, they are going to have more than black folks to fight. We are a nation of immigrants — ALL OF US.
White folks always like to say if you don’t like it here in America, take your black ass back to Africa; well, if you don’t like it here in America, I say “Take Your White Ass Back to Europe,” England in particular and see what kind of reception you get.
Or, we can all live in this country peacefully without all of this unnecessary animus and I can put my fear of you and possible need for a handgun purchase to rest.
In the famous words of Rodney King, “Can’t we all just get along.”
Hating and fearing each other gets us no where; hate, ignorance and the angry mob mentality got us Reginald Denny and that tragedy.

Stop letting your ignorance and fear be your guide. Leave your 50s mob mentality behind and come along with the rest of us to change this country and make it better for ALL OF US, not just the fortunate few.

Well as for wars I have heard many talking about another war of some sort but never heard the term race war being used recently (as in the last several years). What I have heard is that there might be some sort of uprising because so many are fed up with our government. I, too, having been thinking about getting a handgun. Just in case I need to shoot at my wacky neighbor who thinks it’s sound to shoot at my dog with an air pistol and fire off arrows in the vincinity where my children are playing. I suppose I could find some arguement as to it was self defense,

Racist hicks should be the least of your worries. You’re assuming if racism no longer occurs, there will be peace in the nation. You get only partial credit on that answer, my friend.
Worry about the folks who want to take you down because you “may have something they want.” Think money, car, LCD screen, happiness, etc. Worry about the nut jobs who’d do it because maybe you looked them the wrong way. Whatever the case may be, criminal activity has been going on for millenia. It’s just prudence to consider a gun for your own protection from societies criminals (And don’t forget to teach your family proper safety should they stumble on your stash…)
The reason people are buying guns at record rate is because a good number of people remember the accelerated constriction of gun control that happened through a Democratic majority with Clinton at the helm. Fifteen years later, we’ve cycled back to that same political zenith. The net result of those years was less exercisable rights** and more flaming hoops to leap through for the law-abiding citizens.
**(For some people. If you wanted to kill something on its first trimester, you have the prerogative, but I can’t carry concealed in NYC…i digress.)
I didn’t care about owning a gun until recent weeks. In fact, the past few years, I knew my rights to own a gun –and not pay exorbitant fees for purchasing– were safe by virtue of a GOP agenda led by a jackass president. Had we had a better-balanced government (like we had the past 4 years), and a Democratic president that’s focused on other more important issues than ones lobbied by interest groups, I would probably still be putting off my permit.
Did you notice the increase in tax on cigarettes? Prepare for the increase in costs of guns, because it is coming.
And seriously, quit it with the “whitey” fear. That’s just a reverse sort of racism.
Hey M: Thanks for the comment, I appreciate your point of view. But for many black folks, the “whitey” fear is real and living in a neighborhood north, south, east and west of the mason dixon line. There are still white people in this country who think they can go around rounding up black folks to kill for sport; just ask those folks down in Algiers Point, LA.
Also, I am not assuming that this country will suddenly be crime free if there is no longer racism; this is America, there will always be racism (whether it’s against blacks or some other ethnic group)that’s just the way it is.
Gun control, schmun control! So it cost more to buy a gun, so it took longer to get it, so you were inconvenienced. So what! What’s the point!
